The popular beaches at Sandyhills and Rockcliffe are a short drive away and the well known sailing village of Kippford can be found nearby. There are attractive coastal walks between these villages and to local viewpoints.
The farm is 3.5 miles north east of Dalbeattie (famous for its granite) and is convenient for visiting the 'food town' of Castle Douglas (10 miles) with its distinctive range of shops selling gifts and local produce. Dumfries town centre is only 12.5 miles away and has many well known high street names. For those interested in art Kirkcudbright is known as 'The Arts Town' and has several Galleries to browse around and hosts exhibitions in the Town Hall and Tollbooth Gallery.
Outdoor activities are well catered for in the region; mountain biking, walking, golf, horseriding. At Loch Ken sailing and other watersports can be enjoyed. Laggan Outdoor offers a range of activities from Zip-wire to Segway and Water Balling. Both walkers and cyclists will enjoy the many forests in the area, Dalbeattie Forest is only 3 miles away. The Galloway Hills and Galloway Forest Park are popular with walkers.
For mountain bikers there are extremely good facilities; Dalbeattie Forest and Mabie Forest are both part of the '7 Stanes' and have well designed mountain bike tracks. The bungalow lies between Dalbeattie and Mabie Forest and both courses are only 15 minutes away by car. The other five tracks that form the '7 stanes' are also within driving distance.
Families will enjoy a trip to the Cream O' Galloway, a well known local producer of Ice Cream which has an excellent Adventure Playground, a Nature Trail and (of course) a teashop selling their delicious produce. The Cocoa Bean at Twynholm offers children the chance to participate in chocolate making workshops and let off steam in the outdoor and indoor play areas. Mabie Farm Park is another popular destination with a range of animals as well as go-karts, mini quad bikes and other play equipment suitable for all ages! Dalscone on the A75 near Dumfries also has animals and play facilities for children.
The Ice Bowl in Dumfries has an ice rink and an indoor bowls area, there are swimming pools in Dumfries, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright.
The ruins of Sweetheart Abbey (Historic Environment Scotland) are nearby in New Abbey. Threave Gardens (NTS) a mile outside Castle Douglas are beautifully maintained and well worth a visit, nearby there is Threave Castle (HES) on the banks of the river Dee which can be visited via a circular walk and a short boat ride.
For nature lovers there are several excellent nature reserves including the Mersehead, Ken-Dee Marshes, Galloway Kite Feeding, and WWT Caerlaverock bird reserves and an Osprey viewing platform and Bird hides near Threave Castle.
